Saturation illustrates the degree of purity of a color. By contrast, transparent colors are diluted colors with low intensity.

Contrast of saturation is the contrast between pure, intense colors and the diluted ones.

You could experiment with the degree of saturation of a color by using the following methods:

♦ Mix the color with white.  You will see that this mixture will make the color look a bit colder.

♦ Mix the color with black. Black has the ability to deprive a color of its light, so the result will be a darker version of your color.

♦ Mix the color with grey. Your color will become more or less dull depending on the quantity of grey and, of course, neutral.

♦ Dilute the color with water to increase significantly the degree of transparency.

♦ Mix the color with its complementary one to achieve intermediate tones of the two.

In the above picture, I have mixed pure yellow (the middle color) with different amounts of grey (that you can see in all four corners), the result is intermediate shades of low saturated yellow. You can start from my example and apply, one by one, the methods I have mentioned earlier.
